The Problem

Over 80% of Americans want to spend their last days at home, with friends and family. Yet, despite these desires, 75% of Americans will spend their last days in a hospital room with a roommate they don’t know. They will spend hours each day getting painful and often useless treatments and tests, and be asked to take dozens of debilitating drugs. For many the cure is worse than the disease.

The Solution

Hospice Support Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to promoting end of life care at home rather than in a hospital so patients can spend their last days in dignity and peace, pain-free in familiar, comfortable surroundings with friends and family.

Complicated Grief PSA

Thanks to the support of The Surdam Fund, Hospice Support Fund (HSF) produces the first ever TV Public Service announcement on Complicated Grief.

Grief is normal after the death of a friend or loved one. But one in fourteen Americans will suffer a grief that is so deep and severe it can cause them to withdraw from family and friends, lose interest in work and hobbies, and often engage in self-destructive behavior. This form of grief is called Complicated Grief (CG) and while it will impact one in every fourteen Americans, very few people can recognize the symptoms or know what to do to treat it.

That’s why HSF has produced a TV Public Service Announcement on Complicated Grief to raise awareness and to show people there are effective treatments. This PSA was made possible by generous gifts from the Surdam Fund and was filmed by the Media Institute for Social Change at the world famous University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. This PSA will be distributed to about 1000 TV outlets across the nation.
